In 268 BC, at the mouth of the river Ariminus (today Marecchia), in an area previously inhabited by the Etruscans, the Umbrians, Greeks, Samnites and Gauls, the Romans "founded" the colony of Ariminum and settled before war against Hannibal, a legion and plebeian settlers of Rome.
Rimini, which attracted the attention of many emperors, particularly Augustus and Hadrian, through a period of splendor in Rome, there were built prestigious buildings, such as Tiberius Bridge (which suffered during the 'last war numerous bombings and carriages to pass Panzer tanks; its strength is due to the ingenious system of arches that extend on the bed of the river, to the curvature of the supporting arches that follow the direction of the river and to the layer of gravel, removed, has jeopardized its stability ; still used by cars and also called "devil's Bridge" because of two holes that superstition wants to be the mark of a butt of Lucifer), the Arch of Augustus, of great importance because it is the oldest Roman arch extant - 2050 years; it was built in the city but outside the walls, because it had a special significance: "Here begins the pax and Roman civilization", the theater and the amphitheater.
